Dry Shampoo Hair Spray

Lately, I have looking for products that can keep my hair from getting greasy. I honestly can’t keep up with having to wash my hair every other day. In researching how to make powder dry shampoo I found this recipe for dry shampoo in spray format.

I was really thrilled with the results, so here is my version of the recipe. I changed the format, so it is in “parts” making it is easier to quantify. (Marie’s blog is an awesome resource by the way, check her blog out here!)

The recipe features alcohol which evaporates very quickly, making your hair a lot less oily. Calcium carbonate is added to drive the point home as it is a really effective oil absorber in cosmetics. You can definitely tweak the amounts depending on your hair type!

RECIPE:

1 part rubbing alcohol (I used 99%)

1 part water

1/6-1/5 part calcium carbonate

a few drops of essential oil of your choice (I used peppermint)

  1. Pour the alcohol and the water into your spray bottle and shake to mix well.
  2. Add the calcium carbonate and shake thoroughly to get rid of clumps.
  3. Add in a few drops of your essential oil of choice and mix well.
  4. Use by misting hair and scrunching it up a bit to disperse. When the shampoo dries your hair will be refreshed and happy!   Shake well before each use for best results. Enjoy!
